Four DIY Essential Oil Recipes for Summer

Looking for creative ways to put your essential oil to use this summer? Check below for our four favorite essential oil recipes for summer!

1)    DIY Natural Sunscreen

Summer means plenty of sunshine, but sometimes it’s too much. Protect your skin naturally with the following DIY natural sunscreen formula (but be warned that it loses its effectiveness when used together with water-related activities).

  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup fractionated coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup beeswax
  • 2 tablespoons zinc oxide
  • 1 teaspoon vitamin E
  • 2 tablespoons shea butter
  • 12 drops Helichrysum essential oil

Add everything except the Zinc Oxide and essential oil in a double boiler or glass measuring cup. Place the cup/bowl in 1-2″ of boiling water. Stir ingredients. Once the mixture is melted, set aside and let cool for 3 minutes. Add the Zinc Oxide and Helichrysum essential oil and mix well. Pour into a mason jar and store in a cool place (fridge is best). Mixture will last 6 months.

2)    DIY Natural Deodorant

Summer is hot, sweaty, and can be really smelly. Thankfully, deodorant is one way to solve some (or even all) of those issues, but the ones that you purchase from the store are usually made with many chemicals and artificial scents. Instead, why not make your own DIY deodorant stick with our formula below for an inexpensive and much more natural solution?

  • ¼ cup aluminum free baking soda
  • ¼ cup arrowroot (can substitute with cornstarch)
  • 3-5 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 15 drops desired essential oil
  • 1 empty deodorant container

Combine arrowroot, essential oil, and baking soda in a bowl. Combine the coconut oil with the other ingredients (one spoonful at a time) until you get the desired consistency. Press the mixture firmly into an empty deodorant container and let it sit until the coconut oil solidifies. You are done! Just apply as needed.

3)    DIY Shaving Gel

Don’t let summer’s dry skin ruin your day. Lemongrass and grapefruit essential oil are great as a combo, providing both an amazing smell and an amazing time for the skin.

  • 8 ounce dark glass pump bottle
  • 3/4 cup aloe vera gel
  • 1/4 cup raw olive oil
  • 7 drops of lemongrass essential oil
  • 7 drops of grapefruit essential oil

Put a small funnel in your glass bottle. Pour 3/4 cup of aloe vera gel into your bottle. Add 1/4 cup of raw olive oil. Then add your essential oils. Close your container with the pump lid and shake well. Store in a cool, dark place. When needed, pump onto skin and shave.

4)    DIY Linen Spray

Sometimes, summer isn’t just about your body – it’s about your clothes. This amazing spray will make sure your laundry smells absolutely amazing while supporting your well-being.

  • 2 ounce dark glass spray bottle
  • 1 teaspoon of witch hazel
  • 15-20 drops of lavender essential oil
  • Almost 2 ounces of distilled water

Add your Lavender to your glass bottle. Then add your witch hazel. Fill the remaining bottle with distilled water. Put on spray cap and shake bottle well. Spray on freshly laundered clothes or on your pillows and linens before bed.
